Consistency V, 2019, graphite on paper, 18” x 25”

In the artist’s words, “Each work in this series began with the delicate outlining of a single hair. I then meticulously traced and retraced that original outline attempting, as the form grew, to maintain a consistent reproduction of the enclosed line within it. Part lab experiment and part meditation, these works examine the tension between the desire for consistency and stasis, and the unceasing reality of change.” Reminiscent of tree rings, the drawings imply that we humans are part of nature rather than beyond it.
